FIRST AID/CPR INSTRUCTOR

Our First Five EMS American Heart Association First Aid/CPR Instructor Course is Chicago’s premier course for train-the-trainer learning. This course will focus on the *how* of teaching. At the end of our one day American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course, students will be certified to teach their own AHA BLS or Heartsaver certification classes.

Steps Involved in this course.....

Prerequisites for Course

  • Have a current BLS Provider and/or BLS Instructor card. If you don’t have one, please see the registration page to register for a BLS class.
  • Be currently aligned or be willing to align with us. Alignment, is NOT employment. You are contracting with a Training Center to maintain your records, issue your cards, keep you updated on AHA changes, provide your instructor re-certification, and be your support system for AHA. Most Instructors align with the Training Center that is providing their course. If you are taking the course with First Five EMS Education but affiliating with another Training Center you will need to submit a letter of acceptance from the other Training Center on the day of your class. First Five EMS Education will submit your course completion paperwork to the other Training Center.

STEP#1

  • Register HERE for our class

STEP#2

  • Receive your code for the AHA BLS Instructor Essientials online course. And complete BEFORE you come to class!

The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is an online, self-directed course that teaches information needed to instruct AHA’s BLS for Healthcare Providers classroom courses and to conduct skills practice and skills testing sessions for BLS for Healthcare Providers courses. Upon completion of this course, a certificate of completion is available to print and must be presented at the classroom BLS Instructor Course. This portion of the course MUST be completed by the instructor candidate PRIOR to attending the classroom session. This will be done online and log in code will be provided by First Five as part of the Instructor Course registration.

STEP#3

  • Attend your in-person instruction class.

Your First Five instructor will go through the steps of becoming a successful instructor, the required materials, and procedures for AHA and for First Five alignment. Throughout the course you will be demonstrating your ability to correctly and effectively perform BLS Skills, provide instruction and correction to students. At the end of the day you must pass the written exam and be observed teaching a student.

STEP #4

  • Complete instructor monitoring. (Not necessary for re-certifying attendees)

The final part of BLS Instructor training consists of the candidate teaching a portion of a BLS class (conducted at First Five on your day of training or at another approved facility) under the supervision of a First Five faculty member. After successfully completing this portion, the candidate will be issued an BLS Instructor certification card. Candidates must either perform the monitoring session with First Five or complete it at another TC/TF and submit the monitoring form to First Five within 6 months of their instructor course. If the candidate does not complete the course monitoring session within 6 months of completing the instructor training, the instructor course must be taken again.
