WILDERNESS FIRST AID
Whether spending time in the backcountry is your passion or it’s going to be your first time, you should never have to ask, “What do I do now?” Prepare for the unexpected with this fun, online/hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine. Learn what to do from professional rescuers.
ECSI Wilderness and Remote First Aid and CPR/AED is a 20-hour program designed for those who plan on living, working, or playing in remote or rural environments. This is a Blended Learning Course. Participants will do 7 hours of online learning before the class starts, 3 hours instructor lead virtual class, and 10 hours of in-person hands on learning. We are one of the ONLY programs that has included CPR in the class. Everyone will be issued a new CPR/AED card that is good for 2 years.
The course meets or exceeds the necessary requirements for Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, and U.S. Coast Guard.
Why Wilderness and Remote First Aid and CPR/AED?
Time is the essential element distinguishing wilderness first aid from standard first aid. When help could be an hour or even days away, the task of managing the injured and the ill will challenge you. You may have to endure heat or cold, rain, wind, or darkness. The equipment needed for treatment and evacuation may have to be improvised from what is available, and communication with the “outside world” may be limited or nonexistent. Are you up to the task?
Prerequisite: Must be 14 or older. Participant(s) must be able to walk, bend down, kneel on floor, and carry 50lbs in order to simulate rescues. Participants must also complete the online learning and quizzes before the first day of class.
What to bring: long pants, boots, indoor / outdoor clothing, notebook and a pen/pencil. And a great attitude.
Certifications: 2-year, Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR/AED
